FIU Chapter of CMENC
The FIU Chapter of Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC) has been named a Chapter of Excellence by the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). MENC is the National Association for Music Education, with over 130,000 active members (music teachers across the US). We are 1 of 3 chapters to nationally to receive the Chapter of Excellence Award for our service project: Grant for Music in Need. The grant is in its 3rd year, and we have already awarded over $2000 worth of music equipment to local elementary music programs. The 2007-20087 winner was Rosemary Meitz of Royal Green Elementary. The 2008-2009 winner will be announced on April 15, 2009. We fund this grant through our benefit concert: Faculty Spotlight Concert - held every October. FIU will be featured on the MENC website, and in the Collegiate Resource Kit (sent to every collegiate chapter in the US). Also, we will be mentioned in the April issue of Teaching Music (sent to all 130,000 members of MENC).
