Compustat;   Research Insight via Standard & Poors	Current	A huge database of financial data, company reports, performance graphs, and textual documents.  There are 2 methods of accessing this database:  1)Use the College of Business Administrations' WRDS system.  (Accounts are available to FIU students and faculty by contacting Prof. Clark Wheatley.)  The Library subscribes to the more complex Research Insight database system.  Contact the Business Librarian, Steve Morris (348-3134) to discuss access to this system.      [caaiah]
Encyclopedia of Business and Finance (or, via Gale Virtual Reference Library if you are off campus.)	2007	"Designed for the nonspecialist, the Encyclopedia of Business and Finance is a 2-vol. complete reference covering five general areas: finance and banking; accounting; marketing; management; and information systems. Drawing on practical professional expertise as well as that of noted scholars, the contributors include executives, government administrators and scholars from leading business programs from around the United States."        [caaiac]
Encyclopedia of Management (or, via Gale Virtual Reference Library if you are off campus.)	2007	"Includes essays on 350 topics in management theories and applications, written by academics and business professionals who have first hand knowledge of the particular topic or essay they are contributing, and reviewed and edited by Dr. Marilyn M. Helms. Topics include aggregate planning, benchmarking, logistics, diversification strategy, non-traditional work arrangements, performance measurement, productivity measures, and supply chain management, among many others."        [caaiac]
Global Edge Resource Desk via MSU Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER)	(check url date)	Provides links to selected sources of international business information on the internet, mainly through free sites.  Also includes links within its site to "Market Potential Index" of 27 countries and a Glossary of international business terms and abbreviations.       [caaiah]
Corporate Information via Wright Investors Services	(check url date)	Not only does this commercial site provide links to international corporate information, including state by state goverment records in the U.S., but also such things as property records that are online. It has access to definitions of corporation abbreviations (inc., GmbH, etc.) and to news articles and a currency exchange rate calculator. You may search by company, country, or industry. This site provides a very broad source of business information, although much of it is only for-pay subscription.      [caaiah]
Company Financials:
Dun & Bradstreet's Private Companies database;   available through: Mergent Online via Mergent Online	Current	Although basically a directory of 1.5 million private companies worldwide, it does include some financial data about the companies, at times even a basic balance sheet.  All data is based on information provided by the companies themselves, their business partners, and their competitors.  In Mergent Online, click the box to "include private companies."      [caajag]

Value Line Investment Survey   via ValueLine	Current microfiche available 1980 -  last quarter	Contains investment reports on companies and industries, with evaluations and recommendations.  Each industry and theselect, component companies are analyzed once a quarter, although many of the auxiliary tables are updated for each company weekly.  Start with the Index, because there are occasional major updates when some major event occurs within a company.      [caaiah]

The Wall Street Transcript   via TWST: The Wall Street Transcript	July, 1997-date	Provides transcripts of investment-related roundtables and CEO presentations to investment groups.      [caaiah]
Worldwide Mergers & Acquisitions   via SDC Platinum*	US: 1979-last year; Intl: 1985-last year	An analytical database covering the data on both public and private transactions involving at least 5% of the company value (prior to 1993, value must => $1mm.)  Transactions include, mergers, acquistions, LBOs, stake purchases, tender offers, stock swaps, privatizations, spinoffs, etc.  Searchable data factors includes over 1,400 data elements.      [caaiah]    *Available ONLY through computers near windows in ERC, GL249*.  An instruction guide is available:  Worldwide Mergers & Acquisitions Instructions.  It is highly advised to read these brief instructions before starting WM&A.     This is a CD database run on the Library's LAN.

Big Book   via Verizon	Check site date	A commercial directory and search engine of the online Yellow Pages, with options to search by keyword, business name, or location.  Page offers other services, including mapping and directions.  Also includes sponsored advertisements.      [caaiah]
IQS Manufacturers Directory   via IQS	Check site date	Industrial Quick Search is a directory of manufacturers organized by product.  Once the user clicks on a product, the next page lists various companies with links to the companies' websites and descriptions of their specific products.  At the bottom of each product page is a generic description of the product and how it works, followed by further information (such as types and categories), and then a glossary of common terms used in that industry with their definitions.  Front page of IQS has a "Request for quote" option.        [caaiah]
ThomasNet   via ThomasNet	Current	The commercial web site is a directory of manufacturers, distributors, and service companies, plus it offers a number of other services, especially for CAD, architectural materials based on blueprints, and a link to a global version.  The main directory can be searched by individual states and provinces or by all (combined U.S. and Canada.)  The "green books" were well-known and required source for purchasers for decades, now available online.  Note:  Has a plugin to enhance searching for Firefox browsers.      [caaiah]
The Better Business Bureau Central Web Server for U.S. and Canada   via BBB	Check url date	The Better Business Bureau's website, allows searches by the user's zip code/postal code to find the nearest BBB, or use the links to the national sites for U.S. and Canada.      [caaiah]

NAICS--North American Industry Classification System   via U.S. Bureau of the Census	Check url date	This is the system which has replaced the SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) under NAFTA.  In the upper left-hand corner are search boxes to find the appropriate class number by inputting the business or product.  The page has tables for downloading for 2-6 digits and 6 digits only, as well as correspondences between the 3 editions (1997, 2002, 2007.)      [caaiah]
