Listed here, with descriptions, are various computer databases and online services available through the Green Library on University Park Campus which may serve the needs of business researchers.  Those followed by a link in the statement "(Available via XXX.)" may be directly accessed from on campus and usually after using the proxy server from off campus.   (I.e., click on the "Connect from Home" link on the Library's home page.)  For instance, in the first entry below, ABI/Inform, you may click on the "ProQuest" link to go to the database.

ABI/Inform: (Bell & Howell [8/71- present])
The most important database of business journals from around the world on all aspects of business. Primarily indexes news and scholarly, research journals. A large percentage of the articles are available full-text online, either in full-text or PDF.

Aluminum Industry Abstracts

BNA Environmental Library: (BNA; [current])
This CD-based database includes information on federal and state environmental laws, regulations, and legal cases.
Available in the ERC; ask assistant for disks.

Business & Company Resource Center: (Galenet [dates vary])
This meta-search engine includes databases that Index 1000+ scholarly and trade journals, popular magazines, and newspapers in business and industry, company profiles, company brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, as well as litigation. Among other databases, includes Business File ASAP and Investext.

Business & Industry: (Galenet [1994-present])
This is an index of trade magazines, newsletters, the popular press, and international business dailies. 20%+ of the articles are available full-text online.

Business File ASAP database: ( IAC: Indexes[1982-present])
This database covers all aspects of business, with a combination of scholarly and popular publications.

Business Full Text: (Wilson [1982-present].)
The successor to the printed Business Periodicals Index, indexes 600 business journals of a scholarly or news orientation.

Business NewsBank: (NewsBank [1993 - present].
A full-text, indexed database of articles in the business sections of more than 400 local newspapers and regional business publications.  Includes Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel.

Business Organizations: (FirstSearch)
This is a directory of organizations, agencies, and publications.

CCH Health & Human Resources: (CCH)
Includes the information in CCH's looseleaf series that are included in this area: Pension Plan Guide, Human Resources Management, Employment Practices Guide, Payroll Management Guide, and Medicare & Medicaid Guide.

Compustat: (S&P [current])
A complex CD-based database of U.S. stock data, with more intricate options than WRDS.
Available on request; contact Library Systems Manager to borrow CDs.

Congressional: (Lexis-Nexis [1991-present])
This Web-based database provides the contents of CIS Annual Index to U.S. Congressional documents. The main use of this database is to trace bills through Congress.  Formerly named Congressional Universe.
Available via Lexis/Nexis.

Consumer Index.
Provides information on evaluations, tests, alerts, warnings, and recalls of specific products, services, and facilities. It provides abstracts of articles on all aspects of consumerism and consumer protection. Web links provide free, direct access to Internet resources that contain journal articles online (e.g. FDA Consumer), news releases, booklets, recalls, and other sources for consumers available via the World Wide Web.

Datastream: (Datastream [dates vary by database])
This online service includes thousands of databases of financial, demographic, and economic statistics, with the option of downloading data or printing data in tables, charts, or graphs.
Available in ERC.

EconLit: (EBSCOHost [1969 -present ])
This is an index to scholarly economic and finance journals, with abstracts. Contains the materials from Journal of Economic Literature as well as another economics index.
Available through EBSCOHost.

EIU: Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU [dates vary by database]).
This includes Country Commerce, Country Finance, Country Monitor, 5 regional newsletters, and Country Reports and Profiles for about 28 countries. It can be searched by publication, by country/region, or by subject. All information is full text on the web, with an archive of materials.

Elsevier Science Journals: via the Web.
Despite the name, this collection of full-text journals include more than 80 business-related journals, with a separate collection list under "Business and Economics".  Individual titles are listed with specific links within the Library's Catalog.

Findex - Worldwide Directory of Market Research Reports
Electronic version of the printed reference work FINDEX: The Worldwide Directory of Market Research Reports,Studies and Surveys, which is a guide to published, commercially available market and business research. Contains descriptions of consumer and industrial studies and surveys, syndicated and multi-client studies, audits and subscription research services, as well as published reports on general management and business topics. Individual reports may cover an entire industry, a specific segment of an industry, or an individual product or series of related products. Also covered are reports produced by investment firms.

Investext: ([past 2 years + current year-to-date])
This is a full-text database of investment house reports onpublicly owned companies and industries.   Also included in Business and Company Resource Center, above.

JSTOR: via the Web.
Like Elsevier above, this is a collection of full-text journals, including a few business-related. It will be growing in number of titles in the next few years.

Lexis-Nexis Academic. (Web)
A collection of databases, including full-text articles from trade journals and textually-scanned annual reports and 10K reports. (For PDF versions (full graphic) of Annual reports, see Mergent Online, below.) Also includes the "academic" (limited) version of Lexis.

Lexis Nexis Statistical via the Web(Dates vary; 1980 or before).
The automated versions of indexes to statistical publications of the U.S. federal government, to selected statistical publications of commercial and state publishers, and to statistical publications of international organizations. All entries have code numbers (beginning with ASI, IIA, or SRI) that are keyed to microfiche collections in Gov. Docs.  U.S. Federal statistics are available full text online.

Miami Herald ([1983-present])
This database contains the full-text of articles in the Miami Herald, including the following sections: Tropic, Business Monday, Food, Friday Weekend, and the regional editions of Neighbors.

National Trade Data Bank (NTDB): (DOCS)
This complex, full-text database has various sections dealing with trade in foreign countries. It includes such things as general imports and exports from the U.S., industry analyses, NAFTA, reproduced articles from U.S. government periodicals about foreign countries, trade opportunities and barriers, labor reports, contracts for bid in other countries, etc. Available as a sub-file of STAT-USA(q.v.)

NetAdvantage: (S&P; [ date varies]).
This access to publications of Standard & Poor contains many titles the library formerly received in print, as well as a couple of new titles:  Bond Guides, Corporation Records, Dividend Record, Earnings Guide, Industry Survey, Monthly Investment Review, Mutual Funds, The Register, Stock Guide, Stock Reports, and The Outlook.  These are now available in full text online to all students, faculty, and staff of FIU.  Older issues of most of these titles are available in the Business Services section of the Green Library.  Check the online Catalog for dates and call numbers.

NewsBank: (Web [1991-present])
This is the Web-based index to hundreds of U.S. newspapers, including the full-text articles. Includes The Miami Herald and The Sun Sentinel. Of special interest to business users will be Business NewsBank, with indexes newspaper business sections and local business journals.

PsycINFO: (American Psychological Assoc.; [1872/1887-present])
Produced by the APA, this database is identical to PsycLit plus dissertations. The Thesaurus of Psychological Terms is available in Electronic Reference area.

RIA Checkpoint: via the Web in the ERC.
The online equivalent of U.S. Tax Reporter, with a search engine using Boolean.

STAT-USA. (Web)
A collection of federal government-produced materials, including NTDB(q.v.) and business opportunites abroad.

Statistical Universe: See: Lexis Nexis Statistical.

TableBase. (RDS; 1996 - current)
Contains tabular data on companies, industries, markets, products, and demographics. It is international in scope and covers more than 90 industries.

Thomson One Banker (Thomson Financial; Current).
A multifaceted database for searching U.S. and multnational corporations, allowing searches by almost any financial or textual aspect of the companies' annual reports.
Available via Thomson Financial.

TIGER files: available in GIS lab.

U.S. Exports of Merchandise:
U.S. Imports of Merchandise: (DOCS)
These two government databases contain statistics on specific exports and imports, by foreign country and by U.S. port. Commodities are searched by Schedule B Commodity numbers.

Wall Street Journal. (Proquest; 1986 - present).
Full-text access to articles as well as a search engine of the WSJ.
Available via ProQuest.

The Wall Street Transcript: (WST; July, 1997 - current).
The full-text of CEO presentations to investment groups included in this investment publication, including search engines. STRONG RECOMMENDATION: Do not use the generic search engine on TWST's home page; each section has its own, more effective engine.

Web of Science  (ISI;1992-present).
Includes Social Science Citation Index as well as Science Citation Index. Useful when tracking an idea or a publication record.

World Trade Atlas: CD product available in Gov Docs (world data); available online (state data.)

General, Multidisciplinary Files

CARL UnCover/Ingenta
Database of current article information taken from more than 17,000 multidisciplinary journals. It contains brief descriptive information about over 7,000,000 articles published since Fall 1988.
Direct Web access available at the FIU Library or through use of an FIU PPP account.

DAO (Dissertation Abstracts Online): (ProQuest; 1861-present)
The online equivalent to the Dissertation Abstracts International. Includes abstracts for newer dissertations, thus allowing searching of the text as well as assigned descriptors, author, and title. Most recent dissertations allow browsing a few pages online.

PAIS International (Public Affairs Information Service)
Worldwide index to books, statistical yearbooks, directories, conference proceedings, research reports, government documents, pamphlets, and journal articles related to publi and social policy literature of business, economics, finance, law, international relations, public administration, government, and political science, with an emphasis on issues that are, or might become, the subject of legislation.

PapersFirst
Contains citations of papers presented at worldwide meetings, conferences, expositions, workshops, congresses, and symposia.

ProceedingsFirst
Contains citations of publications from worldwide meetings, conferences, expositions, workshops, congresses, and symposia. It provides an overview of the event's activities by listing the papers presented.
