(22) 1. GOTTI, O.P., Vincenzo Ludovico (1664-1742)

Birth. September 8, 1664, Bologna.

Education. Jesuit school, Bologna (early education). Entered the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), in the convent of Bologna, 1680; studied in the Dominican convent of Salamanca, Spain; University of Salamanca, Salamanca (master in theology); offered the chair of theology in that university, he declined; returned to Italy, 1688.

Priesthood. Ordained (no information found). Professor of theology, Dominican convent of Mantua, 1688 (1). Shortly after, professor of philosophy in the Dominican Collegio S. Tommaso, convent of S. Maria sopra Minerva, Rome. Professor of public theology, University of Bologna, 1695; professor of polemical theology, 1695-1714 and 1717-1728. Prior of the Dominican convent of Bologna, 1708; re-elected, 1714; provincial superior of Lombardy, 1710 and 1721 (2). Inquisitor general of the faith in Milan, accepted the position against his will, August 9, 1715 to 1717. Regent general of studies of his order in Bologna. Prior of the Dominican convent of Bologna, again, 1720.

Episcopate. Elected titular patriarch of Jersualem, April 29, 1728. Consecrated (no date found), by Giacomo Boncompagni, archbishop of Bologna.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal priest in the consistory of April 30, 1728; received the red hat and the title of S. Pancrazio, June 14, 1728. Participated in the conclave of 1730. Camerlengo of the Sacred College of Cardinals, January 17, 1735. Opted for the title of S. Sisto, September 26, 1738.

Death. September 18, 1742, at 5:30 a.m., in his room next to the church of S. Maria sopra Minerva, Rome. Transferred to that church the following day in the afternoon. The capella papalis took place on September 20, 1742 in that same church. In the evening, transferred to his title and buried there.

Birth. December 22, 1673, Porzia, fief of his family in Friuli, patriarchate of Aquileia. His last name is also listed as Porcia. Nephew of Cardinal Leandro Colloredo, Orat. (1686).

Education. Entered the Order of Saint Benedict Cassinese in the monastery of Santa Giustina, Padua, 1693. Obtained a doctorate in theology, April 1, 1697.

Priesthood. Ordained, December 22, 1696. Lector of dogmatic theology at the University of Padua; lector of theology in the monastery of S. Callisto, Rome. Consultor of of the SS.CC. of Indulgences and Relics, Apostolic Visit, and the Index. Abbot of the Benedictine monastery of S. Paolo fuori le mura, Rome, 1722; blessed by the pope assisted by the abbots of Monte Cassino and Casamare. Participated in the Lateran synod, 1725. Granted permission to him and his successors to confer the sacrament of confirmation and the minor orders to the monks of his monastery and to the subjects of the castles and lands of the same. Theologian of Pope Innocent XIII. Consultor of the Holy Office.

Episcopate. Elected bishop of Bergamo, April 12, 1728. Consecrated, May 2, 1728, Rome, by Pope Benedict XIII.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal priest in the consistory of April 30, 1728; received the red hat and the title of S. Girolamo degli Schiavoni, May 10, 1728. Opted for the title of S. Callisto, September 20, 1728. Participated in the conclave of 1730. Resigned government of the diocese, November 18, 1730. Prefect of the S.C. of the Index, January 1740.

Death. June 2, 1740, Rome, during the conclave. Exposed and buried in his title.
