FEASt (Florida Electro-Acoustic STudent) Festival!!! The FEASt Festival showcases series of exciting, fresh new works and performances of electro-acoustic works from students throughout Florida. Spearheaded entirely by FIU students, this festival is a culmination of their research and creative work and initiative to collaborate with others. Concert: FLEA @ the Wolfsonian for Sleepless Night! FLEA (FIU Laptop & Electronic Arts) Ensemble plays at Sleepless Night at the Wolfsonian (1001 Washington Ave., Miami Beach)! As part of the all-night festival, FLEA will be performing from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., performing works by Orlando Jacinto Garcia, Elliott Sharp, Samuel Pluta, Paula Matthusen, Jaclyn Heyen and individual members Daniel Lepervanche, Nayla Mehdi, Andrew Brugat, and Jonatan Mendieta will do solo performances! |

Guest Lecture: Elliott Sharp Elliott Sharp discusses his work as part of the Composition Forum and in anticipation of his performance as part of 12 Nights at the Dorsch Gallery (8:00 p.m.). FLEA performs his work "Hammer Anvil Stirrup". Sharp is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and performer central to the avant-garde experimental music scene in New York City for over thirty years. He has released over 200 recordings spanning the musical spectrum, all with his personal stamp. He leads the projects Carbon and Orchestra Carbon, Tectonics, and Terraplane and has pioneered ways of applying fractal geometry, chaos theory, and genetic metaphors to musical composition and interaction. Guest Lecture: Henry Vega Composer Henry Vega discusses his work with live electronics and ensembles. In a handful of years he has been involved as teacher, technician, composer and performer on productions of theatre, dance and concert music that focus solely on modern artistic trends. As a composer Vega has received commissions to work with choreographers, theatre directors and video artists while his devotion is focused on computer interactive performance. (read more) |

EARS (Electro-Acoustic Research Society) was just awarded The Outstanding Organization in the Arts Community Title by CSO (Council for Student Organizations) for all the activity the group coordinated during the 2008-2009 academic year. This included their work with the NWEAMO Festival, New Music Miami, Winter Music Conference, FLEA, and countless other activities including jam sessions in the dorms and workshops available to all FIU students. Congratulations to all the EARS members and especially the EARS board for being such leaders in the community! |

The call for works for the 2009 FEASt (Florida Electro-Acoustic STudent) Festival is out! The deadline for submission is September 25th. The festival will run from Nov. 13th - 14th in the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center. Visit www.feastfest.org for more information.

The FEASt Festival "Appetizers" CD has been released! This CD has been released in anticipation of the 2009 FEASt Festival and features one-minute works from students and alumni of schools in Florida. Featured composers include David Mendoza, Jaime Reveles, Pedro De Faria, Jaclyn Heyen, Erick Bolivar, Liza Seigido, Daniel Lepervanche, Nayla Mehdi, Lina Borda, Juan Espinosa, Erik DeLuca, Edrick Subervi, Tim Reed, Katie Paternel, Ignacio Centeno, Wil Smith, Juraj Kojs, and Kristina Wolfe.
