As part of this series and Distinguished Departmental Seminar Series hosted Dr. Gunther Stent, Professor
of Molecular Biology at the University of California, Berkeley,
Member of the National Academy of Sciences and The Editor of THE
DOUBLE HELIX by Jim Watson. He delivered two talks titled:
1. Origins of molecular biology: Looking for "other laws
of physics"
2. Consciousness: The last great unsolved biological problems

With the help of The Graduate Students Association, The Women's
Center and The Women's Studies Program hosted Dr. Martha Howe, Van
Vleet Professor and the current President of The American Society
for Microbiology.

Hosted Dr. Laurie Glimcher, Professor,
Department of Immunology and Infectious Disease, Harvard School of
Public Health, Boston, MA.
She is the recipient of the 2001 Excellence in Science Award
from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology
(FASEB).

Organized one-day session with 10 speakers in collaboration
with The Honors College. This was aimed at introducing and hopefully
retaining the students in FIU for graduate studies.

of an Outstanding Ability to Communicate Science.
