4:00 PM - Performance of the play “Paphnutius” by Hrotsvita (10th-century canoness of Gandersheim, historian and playwright). Directed by Prof. Marilyn Skow (FIU Theatre) and performed by FIU students. The plays of Hrotsvita celebrate sainted Christian heroines of late Roman times. All the parts (both male and female) will be performed by women, as they were originally done in the religious community.

4:45 PM - Lecture on medieval German nuns as embroiderers and manuscript painters - richly-illustrated power point lecture by Prof. June Mecham, U. of Nebraska-Omaha.

5:30 PM - Performance by “Generica” of the vocal music of Hildegard, the 12th-century abbess of Bingen, whose music was officially recognized as prophetic, divinely inspired. While Hildegard composed for both male and female voices, “Generica” will perform pieces for female voices, such as were sung by the religious women of Benedictine communities.

6:15 PM - Discussion/Audience Q&A with Prof. Felice Lifshitz (FIU History), Prof. Joan Baker (FIU English), June Mecham, Marilyn Skow and Renee Fiallos (Director of “Generica”).
