The Personal HomePages of Library Staff are linked to the FIU HomePage. A link
will be added to the
Libraries HomePage Staff Directory pointing to FIU Personal Pages.
Personal Pages
are stored on each person's Solix account. All staff are entitled to their own
account. To obtain one, contact the Libraries Systems Office and request an account.
Once you have a Solix account you need to set it up so that it is searchable by following
these directions.
A good way to start is to visualize how you would like your page to look. For this you may want to
examine other FIU personal pages
Keep in mind the FIU World Wide Web
Policies which provide guidelines for responsible and ethical content for personal homepages.
If you are not yet familiar with HTML mark-up, you may wish to compose a draft of the page in the
Wordprocessing package with which you are familiar. This draft can later be marked up with HTML.
Just as a Wordprocessing package assists you to mark-up a document (centering, boldface, underlining),
an HTML Editor assists you to put in the special mark-up coding needed for a HomePage.
A number of HTML Editors are available as shareware. Ask the Systems Office to install a package on
the computer you will be using.
The next step is learning the HTML mark-up language. For this you can take a class through UCS or you
can teach yourself using HTML guides linked to the
FIU HomePage.
View how your Personal HomePage will look in Netscape (or other Web Browser) by clicking on FILE on
the menu bar and then selecting OPEN FILE. Type in the filename (eg. c:\data\myname.htm).
