Collaborative Workshop Program
Teaching & Learning Enhancement: Quality Internet Resource Selection. A 4 1/2 hour hands-on workshop on networked computers.
Open to all faculty, adjunct faculty & graduate TA's.
Spring/Summer 2000
This workshop covers:
- A CRITICAL APROACH TO WEB RESEARCH
You will learn to:
- Locate and use databases & internet-based information resources in YOUR discipline.
- Develop effective search strategies in a variety of search engines.
- Apply checklist of criteria to the information found, and be able to help students distinguish
between fact & opinion as well as recognize bias.
- Access and use diverse electronic services such as electronic
journals, electronic reserves, electronic document delivery etc.
- EFFECTIVE RESOURCE DOCUMENTATION
You will learn to:
- Identify proper citations of electronic formats in various styles.
- Use web sites about plagiarism for teaching and learning applications.
- Identify web sites that provide students term papers.
- Develop approaches to reducing occurrences of plagiarism.
- DEVELOPING ASSIGNMENTS THAT INTEGRATE INFORMATION RESOURCES
You will learn to:
- Evaluate sample syllabi and existing assignments for information literacy components.
- Increase students' active learning in and out of the classroom.
- Encourage students' effective and efficient use of technology.
- Develop assignments that promote students' critical evaluation of information resources.
You must register for the series and pre-registration is required! Enrollment limited to 25!
