| UNITED NATIONS COLLECTION |
The United Nations is probably the largest and best known of all intergovernmental organizations. A world of information valuable to students, researchers and librarians is found in their documents and publications.
The United Nations like most Intergovernmental Organizations (IGO's) is a prolific publisher, producing large amounts of information in the form of documents and publications, regardless of format. The UN publish according to their needs and interests, therefore, a wide range of subjects are included in their documents and publications. Among them: Economic and social development, peace and security, international law, human rights, and disarmament.
The Green Library maintains a comprehensive collection of United Nations documents and publications of the six principal organs of the UN - the General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, International Court of Justice, Security Council, Secretariat, and Trusteeship Council, plus publications from many of the specialized agencies and affiliated bodies. Sales publications are received as part of an overall standing order. In addition, the Readex microfiche collection comprises most United Nations documents from 1976 to date. The Readex collection is indexed by AccessUN.
Gaining access to the wealth of information published by the United Nations is not easy. Even though over the years the situation has improved, especially with the explosion of electronic information, reference work and research still pose a challenge to all involved.
