The
Information Technology Center is equipped to perform a limited
amount of maintenance on computers. Included in our capabilities
are:
a.
Certain diagnostic tests
b. Memory upgrades
c. Hard disk replacement
d. Installation of external CDs/ZIP drives
Most
other maintenance tasks will need to be referred to the
FIU
Computer Maintenance Dept at 305-348-6900 (Ext
76900). The FIU Computer Maintenance Dept charges a minimum
fee of thirty-five dollars for service. This is the diagnostic
fee, and is applied to offset final charges.
The
following is the schedule of charges:
Diagnostic fee : $35.00 - will be applied to final cost
First hour : 60.00
Additional time: 15.00 per hour
Parts : charged separately
Items
sent off-campus are charged at the rate established by the
external vendor.
Remember
that most Dell computers carry a three-year warranty. The
FIU Maintenance Dept will perform warranty service on Dell's
behalf if the incident occurs within the first year of ownership.
If the incident occurs after the first year, but within
the warranty period, Dell will perform the repair. In many
cases, however, a telephone call to Dell at 800-274-7799,
will initiate the action required to have a replacement
part shipped to your office. ITC will install most replacement
parts. You may be able to initiate a service call to the
FIU Maintenance Dept by calling Extension 2284.
