reading frequency tables
Frequency tables here have four kinds of numbers and percentages shown. See example below.
- Frequency count of interviews in survey (after weighting). Do not report since the counts have been adjusted in the weighting process. However these counts are useful if you want to calculate different percentage categories.
- Percent Percentages of all respondents, with those who did not answer or said they did not know included.
- Valid Percent Percentages of all respondents who answered the question with an opinion on it. Respondents who did not answer or said they did not know are not included. Use this percent unless you want to include "don't know" answers in. Sometimes they are important to include if the question asks about knowledge of something.
- Cumulative Percent This adds up percentages from top to bottom as you go. It is just there to make the arithmetic easier.
