Environmental
Health & Safety and Risk Management Services: The
staff of FIU's Environmental Health & Safety and Risk
Management Services Department works together as an organized
unit to develop, implement, coordinate and continuously strive
to improve the quality, scope, efficacy and efficiency of
environmental, health, safety and risk management services
delivered to the University community. They do this
in order to comply with regulatory requirements, promote safety,
and to prevent, control and mitigate hazards and exposures
which are likely to result in personal injury, economic losses
and/or environmental damages. The department provides
information and services to enhance community awareness on
issues such as:

FIU
Police: The University Police Department is a full-service
law enforcement organization.
It is dedicated to the maintenance
of a safe environment conducive to living, learning and working
at a university.
Protection of persons
and property is the primary mission of the Police. State
and local laws and University regulations are enforced 24
hours a day. University Police provides a variety of non-police
services to the University community such as escorts and motorist
assistance.

International Hurricane Center:
The IHC is a system-wide
research center of the State University System of Florida,
allowing IHC to draw on faculty expertise in all 10 the constituent
universities.
The center is located on the FIU campus in Miami near the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's)
National Weather Service Tropical Prediction Center/National
Hurricane Center, also located on the FIU campus. Among its
services, the IHC:
- Provides comprehensive
forecasts of potential hurricane impacts
- Contributes to the
community's preparedness planning
- Conducts both basic
and applied research
