1.
Confirm that you have the technology tools needed for this course.
Check
your browser at http://www.webct.com/tuneup.
2.
Confirm
that you have the required plug-ins. Follow the instructions in on
the WebCT tune-up page.
Be sure to load al the
plugins.
3.
Install SPSS Student Version 11.0 for Windows on your computer.
If
you purchased your textbook new from FIU's Bookstore, this disk was included.
4.
Install the
IPS5e
CD-ROM that came with your textbook.
To
install the CD-ROM
Insert
the IPS5e CD.
Double
click on setup. Follow the instructions of the setup wizard to install
the CD to your Program Files.
When
the CD is installed, use Start --> Programs to find and launch the
CD.
Confirm
that you can see the main menu of the CD.
Exit
the program.
NOTE:
If you purchased a used book, you may not have the IPS4eCD-ROM. Almost
all the information on this CD is available online at http://bcs.whfreeman.com/ips5e/
. The SPSS files are not on this website. Contact me to obtain these
files.
5.
Install the
ActivStats
program.
Click

consult the instructions that came with the program.
6.
Create a new folder on your hard disk called STA6166.
Save
(download) the following documents in this folder:
Formula.doc
Picture
Gallery 1 and Picture
Gallery 2.
These
documents were created to save you time when preparing your homework.
The
formulas can be copied and pasted into your homework document in lieu of
your having to create the formula yourself. An example of this procedure
is given in Adding
a Formula.
The
bell curves are images which you can also copy and paste into your homework
document. You do not need to create your own images; simply recognize which
image is appropriate for the problem you are solving and paste it into

7. Locate
Microsoft Equation 3.0, the equation editor which is included with
Microsoft Word.
Open
eq_ed_6166.doc
and
follow the directions.
Installation

must install it from the MS Office installation disks. (Click

Add
the equations editor icon to the MS Word toolbar. Click
