Comments from Program Participants:

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to put the program together and to make it fun for us... I thoroughly enjoyed my study abroad experience this year. I told you this once on the trip itself, but you and Steve do a phenomenal job team-teaching. It's a relief to have professors that don't get agitated when the other steps on their toes, and it's quite clear you two have a mutual respect for each other that I think passes on to your students. Thank you again for everything - you've created a treasure trove of memories for me, and I'm sure I speak for the rest of the class...
J.V. ~ 2009

I am writing in order to show my appreciation of being offered the opportunity to study abroad in Italy though the Honors College. I can confidently say that it was a life changing experience. Obviously, the content of the course was unbelievably exhilarating because I was there, learning about ancient Roman construction in the Colosseum, or about the effect of Renaissance art as I stood there looking at a Michelangelo's Pietà in St. Peter's Basilica. But this program is so much more than that. This is total immersion in a foreign culture where asking for directions or ordering dinner is a little bit of a challenge. It was strange at first trying to get by without the comforts of home, but I have to say that I am now in love with Italian culture, and that this trip has been a stepping stone in my attempt to see other cultures of the world as well. In addition, the friendships that were made with my fellow Honors College students... were friendships that will last a lifetime, and I am grateful for that as well. I just wanted to express how much I believe in this program, and how much 28 days can change a life.
M.P. ~ 2008

The Honors Italy program is a class I will remember for the rest of my academic career, and an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life. Professors Kneski and Fjellman are both amazing sources of information and insight. Their lectures and discussions are so engaging it is hard to not be completely captivated by the country’s history, art, and architecture. The enthusiasm is contagious, and they encourage their students’ curiosity in a way I have never seen in any other course.
O.P. ~ 2006

The Honors College trip to Italy was definitely the best experience of my entire life. Professors Kneski and Fjellman's unorthodox and creative teaching methods allowed me to learn more than I ever have in any one class... constantly encouraged to think abstractly and explore further than what met the eye... The professors were so greatly involved and enthusiastic about each piece of art and architecture, I could not help but be completely engrossed and fascinated by all of my surroundings.
A.C. ~ 2005

"It is incredible the variety of activities I got to experience throughout the Honors College, but the Italy Study Abroad Program was definitely the one I enjoyed the most. For an entire month, I lived in another country, learned from another culture and visited some of the most fascinating places on Earth. The faculty of Italy Program are simply terrific; Prof. Fjellman and Prof. Kneski show you Italy from both an architectural and historical point of view, and this makes the trip completely fulfilling... I loved it."
X.U. ~2004

It is unimaginable the life lessons one learns when immersed in a foreign country or culture, as well as the academic ones..."
D.V. ~ 2003

"The learning was non-stop.  Not only did I learn many things about Italy, but also I learned to really enjoy not knowing and having to find out..."
J.B. ~ 2002

"I learned more in four weeks in Italy than I learned all year in school..."
A.P. ~ 2001

"This trip has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Totally unforgettable..."
