The FIU Faculty Fellow Program in Academic Affairs provides faculty members with exposure to complexities involved in academic administration on the institutional level, as well as the opportunity to work collaboratively with senior administrators in Academic Affairs for a two-year period.  The program is not necessarily intended to provide an entrée into an administrative position; instead it is intended to facilitate interaction and understanding between the faculty and the administrators within Academic Affairs and the University’s central administration generally.  Fellows will continue to teach and engage in scholarly and creative activities while they undertake their duties in Academic Affairs.

I began my service as the first Fellow on October 20, 2008, and have spent a significant period of time overseeing the faculty credentialing process for our up-coming SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation.  In addition to reviewing the credentialing of individuals for instruction, I recommended significant modifications to the credentialing process and policies.  I have also reviewed and suggested revisions to many policies in Academic Affairs, and advised the Provost and members of the Academic Affairs team on numerous matters involving the impact of policies and decisions on the faculty and students.  More generally I have endeavored to provide a faculty member's perspective into the day-to-day functioning of the central administration of our University.
