Graduate Student Organization (GSO) Funding Program
GSA has limited funding for graduate student organizations (GSO’s). In order to receive funding, graduate organizations MUST REGISTER WITH GSA. If you are interested in applying for funding, first read our Guidelines for funding. We will not accept any other forms.
Competitive Edge Series (CES) Workshop
The Competitive Edge Series, provided by the Graduate Student Association, are workshops designed specifically with the graduate student population in mind. Be informed of the developments in your field of interest and make yourself a better candidate to sustain the fierce competition out there in the job market.
These series focus on various topics that play a part in a graduate student’s life and career. For example, web design, resume/CV, how to present yourself and your work, how to make a powerpoint presentation, the numerous sources available at the library for graduate students to conduct research, etc. This year Competitive Edge Series workshop themes will be forthcoming.
Admission to these CES is completely free to graduate students. Furthermore, GSA provides free drinks and food to the lecturers and to the students attending these workshops. To see when the CES workshops are being held as well as register for it soon please visit our calendar.
Scholarly Forum
The scholarly forum has over the years become our showcase for research being conducted by graduate students in the FIU community. The event takes the form of a one-day mini-conference with students from various disciplines presenting their papers in front of an audience and typically three judges. The judges are usually professors within the field or other graduate students who have demonstrated the ability to judge fairly and without personal bias.
Last year there were over forty participants!
Typically, three awards are given
for each category unless it is proportionately larger than
others.
Poster Session & Exhibition
As part of the Scholary forum, the
GSA organize a Poster Session & Exhibition. This event
is created for all the graduate students that do not have
to write papers and/or do artistic work.

We also want to encourage as many graduate students as possible to put up their own homepages, and link them to ours. If you have a homepage and you want to link it to ours please fill out our Homepage submission form.
