The Gerontological Nutritionists Dietetic Practice Group is a specialized
group of members of the American Dietetic Association who have an interest
in and/or practice in the field of nutrition and older persons.
- Networking GN's membership
of over 2600 includes members who work with older persons in a variety
of settings. Annual meeting is the main "in- person" opportunity
to meet other members. GN typically hosts a reception or special event
in addition to holding an annual Business Meeting and participating
in ADA's DPG Showcase. A rewarding way to network is to "get connected"
with the Board and serve as a committee or project person. Another networking
opportunity in GN is to subscribe to the GN listserv.
- GN List is an electronic mailing list for members. Subscription
is free by sending an email to listproc@ucdavis.edu
with the message: Sub GNlist First Name Last Name. All subscribers
receive all messages and can interact by email with all other subscribers
by sending one email message.
- The primary benefit which goes to every GN member is the quarterly
Newsletter. GN's
20-page newsletter typically is received by members late in March, June,
September, and December.
- A new project within GN is the Mentor/Mentee
Program. GN members in specific areas of practice offer a wonderful
opportunity to serve as either a mentor or a mentee.
- Different Continuing
Education Opportunities have been offered at various times. Most
recently GN sponsored the pre-ADA workshop "Touch Tomorrow- Nutrition
and Aging in the 21st Century" in Oct., 2000. Currently available
also is GN's collaborative project with ADA "Parkinson's
Disease: Assessing and Managing Unique Nutrition Needs" which
includes 3 ceu's and is available from ADA publications. GN's special
program, "Chemical Abuse in Elders," was presented at several
locations across the country.
- Four Awards and Stipends are
available exclusively to GN members. The Joncier Greene Award helps
enable members to attend gerontological nutrition educational events.
The Speaker Stipend is available to organizations to help fund GN
speakers at nutrition and aging programs. The new Education Materials
Development Award will help fund education projects. The GN Service
Award is a special award presented for outstanding service. Applications
and additional information are available from the Awards Committee.
- GN offers a Lending Library
service to members. A variety of audio, video, and published materials
can be borrowed at no charge.A $30 deposit is required.

can be purchased for duplicating and shipping costs. Complete membership
lists or state-by-state lists are available.
