Cuban Faithful Celebrate "Sacred Heart Of Jesus" Feast

ETW, 27-May-99 -- Church News

Miami, 27 (NE) The city of Santiago de Cuba began last Monday the preparations for the celebration of the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to take place June 11. An important part of this preparation consists on inviting all inhabitants of the region to participate in this traditional Cuban devotion.

Sources of the local Church affirm that in this city the great majority of homes have an image of the Sacred Heart. They also informed that in the last years the images that had to be taken away from visible places for fear of the communist regime, are being placed back in their original places.

It was precisely a huge image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that was beautifully placed over the Square of the Revolution -which served in the past as a stage for large concentrations of the Castro regime- on occasion of the Eucharistic celebration that the Pope presided in Havana during his visit to Cuba in January 1998.
