The violent incident, perpetrated by the Blas Roda contingent and the members of the police's Special Brigade, caused great consternation to the people in this area, as they started beating the persons accompanying the blind, mutes, and physically handicapped, who were at the above mentioned park as peddlers of all types of articles, which were proviced to them to shore up their weak finances.
In spite of that, yesterday morning, Sunday, police officials and functionaries attached to the Office of City Historian, violently stormed the area and forced the handicapped to immediately evacuate.
According to unconfirmed news, these people were at the park illegally, a park just ahead of the entrance to the capital's train terminal, and they had paid for the required license, but it seems, that the street sales, full of buyers at all hours, was not to the liking of the authorities, perhaps because these businesses were viable.
We should point out that this is not a case of re-sales, since the articles for sale came from State sources and non-governmental organizations, which would make them available to the handicapped for low prices to help them re-join society and solve some of their needs, since the social welfare pensions are extremely low.
Such is Cuba and its capital, as the slogan says on TV. The government continues the harassment against the self employed and now they don't even respect the handicapped.
