Former Political Prisoner Again Arrested, Held Without Charges

HAVANA, 6 August (Monike de Motas) - Former political prisoner Ramon Morejon Castillo is still in detention at State Security's Villa Marista headquarters since his arrest on July 26. Authorities have not divulged the reasons for his arrest nor the charges that will be filed against him.

According to Morejon's family, the political police raided and searched his home in Plaza County ten days ago [on the communist holiday commemorating Fidel Castro's attack against a military garrison in the mid-fifties], arresting a total of five citizens.

The other four persons arrested were released in the following days, but it is expected that the authorities may be trying to link Morejon with the terrorist bombings that have taken place in Havana in recent months. Though no evidence is currently known to link him to the bombings, his previous imprisonment for acts of sabotage against the government make Morejon a likely target.
