FROM CUBAHavana, June 12, 1999 (Angel Pablo Polanco, CPI) The number of persons who are fasting a minimum of 6 hours has increased to 38, among them four activists in the town of Perico, in Matanzas, over 100 miles away from the capital.
Pedro Crespo Jiménez, the minister of the Orthodox Church of Cuba, who defined the fast as an act of "national dignity", visited the fasters on Friday for the second time, and stayed with them during the evening reading of the psalm.
With a unanimous vote of the 5 who fast permanently it was agreed to carry out a conference on Monday the 14th concerning the topic of the political prisoners in Cuba, in place of one about the enviroment which had been announced.
In accordance with one being able to know, the support for the fasters of Tamarindo 34 already includes the majority of the provinces in the nation. In the central headquarters of the fast this Friday there was no presence of the foreign media, but a new independent agency, Independent Press Agency of Cuba [Agencia de Prensa Independiente de Cuba (APIC)] joined their colleagues who report the act of protest directly from the central headquarters.
