Dear Berit and Christian Lovschall:
Continuing my letter from April 24, 1998, I can inform you that the
promised, new note to Cuba has been presented today to the Cuban
"charge' d'affaires" in Copenhagen.
The note contains the following points:
- A request for information regarding what steps have been taken,
because of the murder of your son, to make changes in the instructions
given to armed guards;
- A request for information of what the Cuban authorities have
undertaken, as a result of this investigation, to begin a disciplinary -
or lawful - investigation of the guard who killed your son;
- A request for information regarding exactly what steps the Cuban
authorities have taken to effectively fence off the area where your son
was killed, as well as other military areas in Cuba;
- It is stated that a warning of the safety situation in Cuba is
maintained in the Danish travel guide for tourists planning to visit
Cuba. Also, that other EU countries have been encouraged to do the same;
- A request for a further explanation of why so much time elapsed,
between the time of your son's death and the moment when you were
notified about it;
- A request for available information regarding the missing U.S.
dollars, and also, further communication regarding your son's activities
in the last hours before he was killed.
Other than this, the note contains the usual diplomatic phrases of
courtesy.
We now await Cuba's answer. I will notify you as soon as their answer
becomes available.
Sincerely, Eva Janson
