Young men and women inside of Cuba are on their 64th day (Dec. 12, 1997) on hunger strike.

After 64 days on hunger strike in the city of Santa Clara, the members of the Human Rights Party (Partido Pro Derechos Humanos) afiliated with the Andrei Sakharov Foundation: Daula Carpio Matas (33yrs old), Lilian Meneses Martinez (45), Illeana Penalvar Duque (26), Danilo Santos Mendez (35), Jose Antonio Alvarado Almeida (34), Ivan Lema Romero (35) and Jose Manuel Yera Benitez, remain firm in their position demanding that:

1. Lessening the repressive sanctions in this case, especially for those who find themselves arbitrarily arrested, they are: Roxana Carpio Matas, in the women's prison of Guamajal; Jose Manuel Yera Benitez, in the prison Las Grimas; Ivan Lema Romero and Vicente Garcia Ramos, both in the prison La Pendiente.

2. That the charges imposed by the Castroite tribunals of association to cause delinquency "Asociacion para Delinquir" be dropped, given their unquestionable status as human rights activists for the Cuban people.
