The American press is constantly making love to Fidel Castro.
On ABC, NBC and CBS the public hears nary a word of human rights abuses in the communist enclave.
The press blackout here continues as Castro has begun a fresh crackdown on journalists in Cuba.
The Inter-American Press Association has called on Latin American leaders to raise the issue of press freedom this fall when they meet in Havana for the annual Iberio-American Summit.
So far, only Argentinian president Carlos Menem, who said he would boycott the event, has sent a letter to Castro condemning his jailing of several journalists.
In August, seven journalists were arrested and interrogated. Recently, two journalists, Juan Pablo Polanco and Oswaldo de Cespedes, have been told they could be imprisoned for up to 20 years under a new law issued by Castro.
