Free-Lance Dissident in Central Cuba

CIEGO DE AVILA, December 9 (Juan Carlos González Leyva, Fundación Avileña Pro-Derechos Humanos) - A young man, known only as "Humberto", climbed a wooden platform erected in front of the studios of Morón Radio to celebrate its anniversary, and loudly voiced his support for human rights and asked for freedom for political prisoner Jesús Joel Díaz Hernández.

Two unidentified men beat him down off the platform, but "Humberto" managed to elude them, finally running away. It is unknown if he was eventually aprehended.

"Humberto" is unknown to any of the dissident groups active in the region. One dissident stated that perhaps the act was "a new impromptu and personal form of civic resistance, which presumably could be repeated."
