ANTI-CASTRO GROUP WILL RETURN TO MARGARITA ISLAND

Caracas, Nov 4 (EFE).- Members of anti-Castro groups expelled from Margarita Island, where the 7th Ibero-American Summit Conference will begin on Friday, will return to the island to distribute a document criticizing the Cuban regime, writer Carlos Alberto Montaner confirmed on Tuesday.

In a press conference, Montaner explained that the group will complete the plan that was interrupted by Venezuela's security police, and will distribute a document criticizing the Cuban government, and will hold its Cuban Democratic Platform with the press next Thursday.

Montaner was "comfortable with the reaction of the country and the Venezuelan government," as well as the reasons presented by President Rafael Caldera, Presidential Secretariat Minister Asdrubal Aguiar and Communications Minister Fernando Egana.

The dissident writer said that the expulsion of anti-Castro groups from Margarita Island demonstrates the effectiveness of the Cuban secret service, whose agents have infiltrated several of their activities in Venezuela.

"There are dozens of Cuban agents on the island and many of us fear that some of them have come in contact with the national police and have influenced them in giving the order to expel us from the country," Montaner said.

"The decision against us was not simply made by the national police or by someone in the Interior Ministry, and it also violated Venezuela's constitution," added Montaner.

"I have spoken with Minister Egana and with the head of the Justice Department, Hilarion Cardozo, who have apologized, along with other Venezuelan political leaders, including Eduardo Fernandez, Pedro Pablo Aguilar and others," the anti-Castro leader said. EFE
