Opposition fast grows

Havana, June 9, 1999 (Angel Pablo Polanco, CPI) – "A cordial invitation to the diplomatics accredited in the country" so that they visit the seat of the fast that is being realized by members of various opposition organizations to the Cuban regime was revealed today here in a declaration signed by the fasters of Tamarindo street in the Cuban capital, in which additionally they make evident their grateful thanks to the 21 nations who voted in favor of a resolution condemning the totalitarian government of Castro. The text of the declaration follows:

On this day, dedicated to women political prisoners, the fasters of Tamarindo street number 34 make evident our grateful thanks to the 21 nations who recognizing the shortages and sufferings of the Cuban people, voted in favor of a resolution condemning the Cuban government for its human rights violations. Also, on this day, we make a cordial invitation to the functionaries or representatives of all the diplomatic offices accredited in the country so that they visit this humble accomodation of Tamarindo street number 34 to know the free opinions of those who take great risks doing this fast which is a civic protest reclaiming respect for human rights and the release of political prisoners.
