Cuba's statement supports Iraq

HAVANA -- (AFP) -- Cuba took a swing at the United States, Britain and the United Nations Sunday, saying they have targeted Iraq but not Israel for stockpiling weapons of mass destruction.

``These nations, along with the United Nations, have not taken drastic measures against Israel, which has the largest nuclear, biological and chemical weapons arsenals and industries in the region,'' the official weekly Juventud Rebelde said.

``It is true Baghdad has made mistakes such as the attack it carried out in 1990 against Kuwait which started the so-called Gulf War, but these nations completely forget that Israel in 1967 took over as its own all of Palestine, part of Syria and Lebanon,'' the weekly said.

``Washington and Great Britain, this time, have been left quite alone in their plans for aggression against Baghdad,'' the weekly added.
