AT&T ordered to post bond as it appeals Brothers case
A Miami federal judge Thursday ordered AT & T to post a
$4.5-million bond while it appeals his ruling that allows the families of
three men killed by the Cuban Air Force to receive millions in telephone
fees that U.S. phone companies pay to Cuba.
Last week, Senior U.S. District Judge James Lawrence King said the
families could collect $6.2 million in phone money to help satisfy a
$187.5 million judgment against the Republic of Cuba and its air force. In
1996, the three members of the Brothers to the Rescue organization were
shot down in international airspace as they searched for waterborne
refugees trying to reach the United States.
On Monday, AT&T filed a notice that it would appeal.
