I.C.E.P.

Interdepartmental Chemical Exchange Program

"Are you throwing money down the drain?"
  • Did you order too much of something that someone else might be able to use?
  • Are you looking for something that someone else might have but not want?
  • If you answered yes to either of the above...
    You can benefit from ICEP.
  WHAT IS ICEP?
A new system established through the Department of Environmental Health & Safety aimed at reducing the total quantity of chemical waste generated by the University.
  WHY IS ICEP NECESSARY?
  • It is required by law.
  • It is our civic responsibility to protect the environment.
  • It will result in cost reduction for disposal of hazardous chemicals.
  WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM ICEP?
All departments and researchers using chemicals.
  HOW WILL ICEP WORK?

The ICEP Chemical Exchange Flow

ICEP involves a simple, two step process:

Step 1:  Intra-departmental Program

  • Each academic and research laboratory shall maintain current chemical inventories, from which surplus chemicals are to be identified for ICEP.
  • Department Supervisors/Lab Managers or researchers shall periodically forward lists of surplus chemicals to EH&S.

Step 2:  Inter-departmental Program

  • EH&S will collect, compile, organize and advertise the availability of chemicals for exchange among departments.

The following conditions apply to participation in ICEP:

  • Chemicals must be in their original container with original manufacturer's label.
  • If previously opened, the container must bear the date it was first opened.
  • Containers must be in good condition.
  • Chemicals must be uncontaminated.
