Biosafety cabinets (BSC) are designed to provide protection to personnel and the environment when appropriate practices and procedures are followed. It allows individuals to work safely with infectious microorganisms, while minimizing exposure and release into the environment.

Biosafety cabinets at FIU require annual certification by a professional technician to assure proper protection. The Biosafety Cabinet Program provides on-line training and annual certification services at no cost to the user.
