Institutional Review Board for the Use of Human Subjects

Board Submission Schedule

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES FOR FULL BOARD REVIEW

For Full Board Review, a Principal Investigator must:

Be aware of submission schedule (indicated below) for Full Board Review and meet all requirements in a timely manner.  Assemble a complete application for the use of human subjects.

Submit one (1) complete application to the appropriate IRB Representative by the 15th of the month prior to the month for which you are requesting review.  For example, if you require review by the scheduled meeting date in May you must submit your application by the 15th of April.  Submission by the 15th allows your representative to request and receive any significant changes prior to the receipt date in the IRB Office (MARC 430).

Please first obtain an authorizing signature from your IRB Representative as a first step of review indicating Full Board Review is required.  Then proceed with making 22 photocopies (plus the original) and forward the packets to the IRB office (MARC 430), by the IRB receipt date indicated below, for dissemination to the representatives.

You are invited to be present in the waiting area outside of the meeting at the time of your proposal review to answer questions regarding your proposal.  If you are planning to optionally attend the meeting, then please let the IRB Coordinator know in advance.

Renewal Information:  Any active protocol that previously received a full board review must come back to the full board for its yearly renewal.  However, a protocol that previously received a full board review can go through an Expedited review (Category #8), so long as it meets one of the following three requirements:

(a) where (i) the research is permanently closed to the enrollment of new subjects; (ii) all subjects have completed all research-related interventions; and (iii) the research remains active only for long-term follow-up of subjects; or

(b) where no subjects have been enrolled and no additional risks have been identified; or

(c) where the remaining research activities are limited to data analysis.

If the protocol meets one of those three requirements, then please attach a memorandum to the top of your Form B-2 renewal packet indicating that you are requesting for the project to go through an Expedited 8 category of review.  Please also include provide a brief justification for your request in the memorandum.

Exempt and Expedited review of proposals occur throughout the month.
Submit one (1) complete copy of the IRB application packet to an IRB Representative.
