Selecting an IRB Representative

Florida International University requires that ALL research involving human subjects be submitted to the IRB for approval.

All FIU IRB Representatives are qualified to review proposals in diverse areas of study based upon the criteria for approval of research outlined in University, and Federal Guidelines. Investigators may submit their proposals for review to any representative, however we do realize that a representative in your college may be more familiar with your specific area of research. An IRB representative may defer reviewing a proposal for the following reasons: 1) there is a conflict of interest, 2) the investigator is a student who they advise, 3) time constraints. If there is not a representative listed for your school or college (e.g. Academic Affairs) you may submit to an IRB representative that would be familiar with the related research area.

Questions regarding IRB proposal submission may be directed to any IRB Representative, the IRB Coordinator or IRB Chairperson.

Approval through Exemption and Expedited review occur continuously by individual qualified IRB Representatives.

Full Board Review occurs every 4th Friday of the month (subject to change). Please review the submission schedule for further information.
