Service-Learning Mission

Our service-learning mission at the FIU Center for Leadership & Service (CLS) is to enrich student learning through curricular & co-curricular leadership & service-learning activities which address community-defined needs through student civic engagement.

What is Service-Learning?

Service-learning is as an educational experience that enhances classroom learning. It encompasses: (1) a service project that meets identified community needs, and (2) reflection and other assignments that promote greater student understanding of both the subject matter and themselves.

FIU defines service-learning as the process of integrating community service activities combined with faculty instruction that meet community needs using active guided reflection.
