Thomas Humphries is Associate Director at the Center for Labor Research and Studies, Florida International University, the Florida State University System at Miami, Florida. Prof. Humphries received a B.A. from Mercyhurst College, Erie Pennsylvania and a M.S. In Human Resource Development from FIU. His background and interests include labor-management relations issues, as well as employee development and professional licensing standards. A particular interest in health care delivery issues has involved Prof. Humphries in health care facility and employee safety standards research, as well as service on a community hospital board and trusteeship of a multi-employer health plan. He has been associated with the Center since 1978 and had been a labor arbitrator since 1984.
Professor Humphries' activities within the Center's Labor Studies credit program include curriculum development and course offerings in Dispute Resolution, Collective Bargaining, and Introduction to Labor Studies, as well as contemporary issues courses which have included Initiatives in Employee Ownership, Labor and Politics: Management Issues in Today's Literature. Continuing education activities include coordination and instruction of a broad range of labor-management and employment issues for both domestic and international participants.

Humphries' primary teaching interest is in the area of Employment Dispute Resolution . He serves as a neutral arbitrator through appointments to national arbitration panels including the federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, American Arbitration Association, and National Mediation Board. He also serves on private and public sector, local and regional dispute resolution panels including Miami Area Postal Service/American Postal Workers, UNITE, Miami-Dade County/Multi-Union, Broward Sheriff's Office/ Broward County PBA, Palm Beach County/ Palm Beach IAFF Drug Test, and the Florida Power and Light/ IBEW System Council Expedited Panel. Additionally, he engages in limited labor management mediation activities and serves on the University's Grievance Mediation Panel.
