Photographs of Giant Equisetum in Cultivation

1. Strybing Arboretum #1 (San Francisco, CA):  (See the two photos on lower left of page, Probably E. myriochaetum)
(I was informed by Holly Forbes (personal communication, 2002), curator of the University of California Botanical Garden,  that this plant came originally from the University of California Botanical Garden and was misidentified as E. giganteum until Dr. Alan R. Smith determined the plant to be E. myriochaetum in 2001)

2. Strybing Arboretum #2:  (see #1, probably E. myriochaetum)

3. Strybing Arboretum #3:  (see #1, probably E. myriochaetum)

4. Strybing Arboretum #4:  (see #1, probably E. myriochaetum)

5. University of Wisconsin Greenhouse:  (Probably E. myriochaetum of same clone as Strybing Arboretum plant)

6. Virginia Tech Biology Greenhouse: E. giganteum (Jamaica) and E. myriochaetum (Mexico?)

7. University of California Botanical Garden #1:  E. myriochaetum probably from Veracruz State, Mexico

8. University of California Botanical Garden #2 :  same as #6

9. University of California Botanical Garden #3 :  same as #6 (Note the lack of teeth (due to shedding) and black band on the rim of the nodal sheath, both features that are typical of E. myriochaetum. )
