(I was informed by Holly Forbes (personal communication, 2002),
curator of the University of California Botanical Garden, that
this plant came originally from the University of California Botanical
Garden and was misidentified as E. giganteum until Dr. Alan R.
Smith determined the plant to be E. myriochaetum in 2001)

the lack of teeth (due to shedding) and black band on the rim of the
nodal sheath, both features that are typical of E. myriochaetum.
