CURRICULUM

Children are viewed as individuals. Each child is encouraged to develop emotionally and academically at his/her own rate of growth, in an environment designed to foster nonviolence and diversity.

Working towards their maximum potential, the children are nurtured by being exposed to the many content areas the teachers offer such as: art, music, action songs, finger plays, puppetry, movement, science, cooking, dramatic indoor/ outdoor play, writing process, language/literacy, math, and developmental tasks.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Principles from our philosophy are practiced throughout the day, allowing the ideals of communication to become part of each task at hand.

Each morning begins with Circle Time, specifically centered around language development. Children, as people, are given the opportunity to talk and be listened to. At the same time, our staff and children are tuned into their feelings and to others verbally and nonverbally.

Communication skills are developed and preparation for the day takes place during this time. The children are encouraged to learn through exploration and discovery. By interacting and talking with the children, the teacher guided each child to construct meaning from their experiences as they proceed throught their individual stages of development. In this way, through passive and active play, sometimes solitary in nature, others more collaborative, children make sense of their world.

The quality and diversity of the experiences offered, combined with the encouragement of verbal communication, provide an atmosphere of creativity and growth for each child.

ENRICHMENT/SPECIALISTS

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Research has shown that children do best when there is a connection between home & school.

The Parent Committee is an integral part of the the program, linking home & school through various activities. This sense of community is highlighted with a fall, winter, international and Spring festival. Family socials, workshops & field trips occur thoughout the academic year, and round out this component. Each family makes a commitment to serve on the Parent Committee.
