Office Hours: TR 3:00-5:00 PM (CP 206)
Class Times: 1:00PM-2:40PM (M), 2:00PM-2:50PM (WF)

Read each of the assigned chapter sections (listed below) before the lecture, and again immediately after. Suggested problems from the book will be listed on the blackboard. This is the bare minimum number of problems that you should solve for practice. Understanding physics means being able to solve problems, not memorizing equations.

Students enrolled in this class are STRONGLY encouraged to also enroll in the corresponding PROBLEM SOLVING class.

University Physics by Young and Freedman, 11th editionTextbook:

We will be using University Physics by Young and Freedman, 11th Edition. We will cover Chapter 21 to Chapter 35. It is important to read the Chapter sections prior to each class as they will complement the lectures. The book comes with a student access kit for Mastering Physics (www.masteringphysics.com). If you bought a used book without Mastering Physics, you can purchase it on-line.

Homework:
Mastering Physics web-based system will be used for turning in and grading the homework. You can get to the homework page by clicking here where you will find detailed instructions for using the system. Make sure to register for the correct section, the section ID is CHAPAGAIN2049FALL07.  The assignments have to be turned in on time.

Grading:

There will be three in-class examinations and the final examination. The final examination will be twice as important as each in-class examination. No make-up examinations will be given. If you miss an examination you will receive a grade of zero for that examination.

The course grade will be determined using the grades obtained in the final exam, three in-class exams, and the homework. The weighting of the grades will be 18% each for the three in-class exams, 36% for the final exam and 10% for the homework. The final grades will be based on a curve but in order to obtain an A, you must score at least 90% on average.
