Cataloging will provide access to the following international document numbers: 1) UN document numbers; 2) OAS numbers; 3) UN sales publication numbers; and 4) EU catalog numbers.
Examine the document itself for the numbers. They will be in quoted notes in 500 fields.
If you have to enter the number, enter it in quotes "" and transcribe it exactly as written.
EXAMPLE: 500:: "Originally published for the Second Annual Meetings of the Inter-American Economic and Social Council, with the following classification: OEA/Ser. H/X.4. CIES/248."
Search by going to Advanced Search and selecting Notes Keyword(s); remove the punctuation and leave a space where the punctuation was [unless there was already a space there]: OEA Ser H 4 CIES 248
EXAMPLE: 500:: "UN sales publication sales no. E.95.II.D.13"--T.p. verso.
Search by going to Advanced Search and selecting Notes Keyword(s); remove the punctuation and leave a space where the punctuation was [unless there was already a space there]: E 95 II D 13
This same record has a UN document number as well: "UNCTAD/ECDC/243." However, because it was entered in a 590 field, you will need to search by going to Advanced Search and selecting Local/Staff Notes Keyword(s): UNCTAD ECDC 243. I think it also helps to check Exact phrase? Yes.
Follow this procedure for EU catalog numbers, which are almost always on the back cover.
This procedure is for monographs only.
EXAMPLE: 500:: |a "C3-24-99-146-EN-C"--P. [4] of cover.
EXAMPLE: 599:: |a C32499146ENC
