Spanish Resource Center Books

[rainbow bar]

Sub-Library code:  FIUSR

Collection code:     SRC for adult books

                             SRCJ for juvenile books

Ana will send Eduardo a box whenever he lets her know that he’s ready for another one—probably one per week.

When he unpacks them, he will stamp them on the first page with the Spanish Resource Center stamp so that they will not get mixed up with other books in the vicinity.

Cataloging procedure:

Search Aleph to see if the libraries already own a copy.

If UP already owns, make SRC book copy 2 [or whatever]

If BBC already owns a copy, handle as “added title.”  [Short term this means going to OCLC to set holdings for FXG; longer term we plan to set up triggers so that holdings can be uploaded like “utape/ntape.”]

If neither library owns a copy, log into OCLC using login that lets you set holdings for FXG.

Catalog books as usual using your judgment as to whether a given book is juvenile or adult.  If you’re not sure, consult with Adis.

In those cases where no record is found in OCLC, key a minimal-level record into Aleph and don’t sweat too hard on the call number.

Write call number on first page of book.  We will print labels here.

Send completed books back to Ana.

Additional decisions:

1. Since they’ve been in the collection several years now, we will assume that stripping is not needed.

2. Eduardo will barcode books but will not insert date due slips.

3. If Eduardo finds books that he thinks should not be cataloged (e.g., 1994 Spanish BIP) he will send book back w/ a note to Sue; if Sue agrees, Ana will box these before Sue shows them to Sherry C. so that they can be put with other rejects.
