Either Provisional or Not a Correct Match

[rainbow bar]

Create original in OCLC.

When record is ready to add to OCLC,

update holdings
make a printout (as a fail-safe record of your work)
save again to your online save file (Ctrl + Alt + V)

Copy the ALEPH bib system number of the record you plan to overlay. Paste the number into a 599:9_: (that is 599 first indicator 9) field in the OCLC record. (C&p only the significant digits; not the leading zeros.)

EXAMPLE: 599:9_: 35932

***NOTE: There are three options to export a record to Aleph:
1) OCLC direct export profile "ALEPH Bib only" which will export one record at a time and will only overlay the bibliographic record
2) OCLC direct export profile "ALEPH Hol & Item" which will overlay the bibliographic record and will create holding and item record (it will not overlay existing holding record)
3) using GenLoad (that does batch export and will overlay bibliographic and holding record)

When you first open Connexion you need to select the appropriate profile for the type of transfer you are going to do. If you are going to export direct from OCLC, you need to log on using one of the two profiles "ALEPH Bib only" or "ALEPH Hol & Item". If you are going to overlay the record using Genload you will need to log on using "GENLOAD."

[Note that after updating the record the online save file number may be different than it was before.]

Explanation: The reason we do not want you saving originals to your local file is that we are going on the assumption that anything in your local file is ready to upload to Aleph.

We want you to update holdings so that the original is in OCLC and someone else does not scoop your hard work. But we want you to keep the record in the online file because that is where records are kept that are not totally ready to upload into Aleph using GenLoad.
