To do shelflisting (fit a cutter in with other call numbers in NOTIS):
- Browse the call number index with the command: LTFI brow cls [call number]
The bro stands for browse and the s after cl means shelf list order.
- EXAMPLE: LTFI brow cls pr6075
- With bib or copy holdings record in front of :
Hit F10 key for the long public screen OR
Type LO or LONG for the long public screen OR
Type BR, BRIE, BRIF, or BRIEF for the brief public screen
- Unlike LUFI you will now see the NOTIS number at the top and the LTFI command line.
Scroll through using F1 (next record), F2 (previous record), F3 (group display), F4 (index display) as you do in tech mode.
- To go back to screen 1 of a multi-screen record type BACK
- To return to tech mode,
Hit F6 or type BIBL to go to the bib screen
Hit F5 or type HLDG to go to the copy holdings screen
OR
- To go to Public Mode as the patron sees it: Clear the screen, Type LUFI at the top and Enter. All future
commands must be the "public mode" commands as shown on the menu at the bottom of the screen.
- To return to Staff mode hit the > key and Enter.
- To search copy holdings notes, at the command line type LTFI fi chn=[word] .
Examples:
LTFI fi chn=mirtha retrieves all the "Mirtha's Office" notes
LTFI fi chn=um and chn=bindery retrieves all the "um=AT BINDERY" notes
- All notes are searchable regardless of whether the copy status code is OA, 1L, 1I, 1Z, etc.
A keyword search can retrieve words or parts of words virtually anywhere in the bibliographic record.
The basic commands are:
k= searches all keywords
ka= searches author keywords (fields 100, 110, 111, 700, 710, 711)
kt= searches title keywords (fields 130, 240, 245, 246, 440, 505, 730, 740, 780, 785)
ks= searches subject keywords (fields 520, 600, 610, 611, 630, 650, 651)
kn= searches note keywords (502, 505, 520, 590)
Example: ltfi fi k=hamlet
Truncate: Use ? to truncate (or shorten a word).
Example: ltfi fi ks=alz? (to retrieve subject Alzheimers Disease)
Boolean Operators: You can limit a search by using boolean operators: &&, and, or, not, adj).
(Note that "and" is going to be replaced by "&&"):
ka=kennedy && ks=kennedy (will get all records by or about kennedy)
ks=cuban poetry or ks=caribbean poetry (will get all records with either subject heading)
ka=bush not ka=george (will get all records with author bush except for those by George Bush)
ks=environmental adj policy (will get all records where the words environmental and policy are
adjacent to each other, i.e. they're on the same line in the record)
You can limit a search by date:
single date ex: dt=1994
range of dates ex: dt=1990-1994
range with ending date open ex: dt=1950-
range with beginning date open ex: dt=-1900
range with last digit unknown ex: dt=198?
uncertain date ex: dt=19uu
Examples:
k=computer files && dt=1994
ka=shakespeare && dt=1920-1950
You can limit a search by language using: lng=
This will retrieve the language codes in the fixed field and in the 041 field. Example:
ks=periodicals && lng=spa (will retrieve all Spanish language periodicals)
You can limit a search by location using:
lcn=uspc or sublocation using: slc=un
OR combinations using: lsl=uintun (EX: ltfi fi k=nuclear && lsl=uintun)
You can limit a search by format or search by format only using: fmt=
ks=gone with the wind && fmt=vhs (will retrieve the movie on VHS videotape)
