Books accompanied by CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs or computer disks

Policy:

Catalog the book (if it is clearly the dominant item) for the appropriate collection.

  1. Bibliographic Record: Title is to be cataloged as any other print material, but with an addition to the physical description (300) field to indicate the existence of the disk:

    e.g. + |e 1 computer disk (5 1/4 in.)
    e.g. + |e 1 computer disk (3 1/2 in.)
    e.g. + |e 1 CD-ROM
    e.g. + |e 2 sound discs (digital ; 4 3/4 in.)
    e.g. + |e 1 CD-ROM + 1 study guide (457 p. : ill. ; 25 cm.)
    e.g. + |e 1 videodisc (sd., col. ; 4 3/4 in.)

  2. Check or add a 538 system requirements note. You can usually find information about the system requirements on the cover of the book or on the introductory matter.


  • Create Item Records:

    1. Only the book should have an item record.



  • Label Book:

    1. Write call number on the book as usual based on its sublibrary and collection code.


    2. Apply the appropriate label to the front cover near the barcode. Try not to cover bibliographic info with the label.
