Project Goals

• Direct estimation of forest-level (canopy) carbon exchange through eddy covariance studies carried out under varied climatic conditions through three years.
• Assessment of net primary productivity and its spatio-temporal variation within a tropical rainforest landscape.
• Determination of whole-tree response functions to climatic variation for the major functional types of tropical rainforest canopy trees, thus enabling a first-level assessment of the sensitivity of forest productivity to changes in biodiversity.
• Assessment of soil carbon pools and dynamics, the principle determinants of the role of tropical rain forests as carbon sinks or sources.
