CERTIFICATION: Upon successfully completing all course work for this program, a Certificate of Completion will be awarded by the Legal Studies Institute of the College of Continuing and Professional Studies at Florida International University. A certificate from FIU will open doors to you.

Course Schedule:

This course is divided into 30 units of 4 hrs each. Units 1 through 15 will be offered during the first semester. Units 16 through 30 will be offered the following semester. The program will be offered continuously throughout the year, allowing a new student to enter the program at any unit. You can finish in two semesters with the prerequisite of 120 hours required to obtain your license from the State of Florida, Risk Management Division after meeting the criteria of the Agency for Health Care Administration

To obtain the license from the State of Florida as a Risk Manager, you must be qualified as:

a) Health Care provider (Physicians, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Pharmacists, Registered Nurses, Radiologic Technicians, Respiratory Therapists and Emergency Medical Technicians)

b) Health Care Administrator (An individual with a four year degree suitable to prepare the individual to administer a health care facility)

c) Completed an accredited course for Medical Records Administrators or Technicians.

The state exam will be provided to you on the final day of class, after the 120 hours have been completed.

  Certification:
Upon graduation, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Florida International University as a Risk Manager. You will obtain your Risk Management license from the State of Florida upon completion of the 120 hours and if you meet the criteria for eligibility.

Classes are offered on a rotating basis, so that students may start and finish the course at their own pace.

  About the Instructor:
Juan M. Reyes, ARM, LHCRM, has been the Director of Risk Management and Compliance Programs for the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade County, Florida/University of Miami School of Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Medical Center since 1998. He possesses extensive experience in Risk Management and Safety & Loss Prevention with over twenty years in the field. He is a graduate of the University of Miami with a Master's in Business Administrations/Health Administration, and a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Since 1986, Mr. Reyes has served as a State of Florida Risk Manager and is Board Certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (ABQUARP). He has also been granted the Associate in Risk Management (ARM), a national designation by the Insurance Institute of America.

  Lecturers:
In an effort to augment and enhance the course experience, during the course of the program lecturers with expertise in certain topics (ie: compliance, credentialing, health care safety, quality improvement, etc...), will be invited to present certain course topics.
