MERCEDES P. ALONSO-KNAPP

Attorney Mercedes P. Alonso-Knapp earned her undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude from University of Miami, majoring in English and Psychology and Cum Laude from University of Miami School of Law earning a Juris Doctor degree. Immediately after her graduation she began working at the Third District Court of Appeal as a Career Attorney until the present. From 1989 to 1992, she was an Instructor for first year law students at UM and in 1994, she begun working for the FIU, Legal Studies Institute as adjunct professor of several core and specialty courses. She is a member of the LSI Advisory Council since 1997 as well as Coordinator of the LSI new instructor’s workshop. As an added attribute, Ms. Alonso-Knapp is the developer of the Paralegal Online program and is also the Professor of three trimesters.

Attorney Prieto Alonso-Knapp is an excellent instructor, who has earned the respect and love of her students and colleagues at LSI. She is always willing to collaborate with us no matter how hard the project may be or how short of a notice we give her.

 

THE HONORABLE JOSE RODRIGUEZ

The Honorable Jose Rodriguez earned his Associate’s degree from Miami-Dade Community College in 1976. In 1978 he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree at Florida International University and went to Indiana University School of Law where he graduated with a Doctor in Jurisprudence degree in August 1980. While practicing in his own firm, from 1984 and 1994, he was appointed County Judge by Florida Governor Lawton Chiles where he served until May 2000 when he was appointed as Circuit Judge by Florida Governor, Jeb Bush.

His long career in the judicial system makes him a great asset to the Legal Studies Institute. Judge Rodriguez is fully bilingual and teaches in English and Spanish the topics of the US Legal System for paralegals and for Hispanic attorneys. He has participated as a member of the LSI Advisory Council since 1997 and has been adjunct professor of LSI since 1995, during which time, he has received many accolades from his colleagues and students as he excels in the classrooms.
