Distance Learning

Distance Learning
. . for people with a million other things to do!

Distance Learning includes traditional delivery technologies such as videotape, video conferencing and web-based instruction to provide services to students at a distance. The College of Continuing and Professional Studies works with the Academic Units to facilitate those courses and to develop full degree programs and certificates.

Study Abroad programs

These programs offer the best opportunity to earn credits towards your degree while abroad in an exotic destination with an FIU professor and friends. FIU and Non-FIU students of all levels may participate in the Study Abroad Program through the Office of International Studies for a period between two and eight weeks. The program consists of taking FIU classes in an international setting during the Summer semesters (some exceptions may apply).

For program and travel details, please contact the Office of International Studies at (305) 348-2659 or visit http://intered.fiu.edu/study_abroad/study_abroad.php. You may also send an email to: intered@fiu.edu.

Study Abroad Programs 2003

FIU Study Abroad programs are short-term summer programs that help students earn credits toward their degree with the benefit of instruction by FIU professors abroad. Opportunities are available in Europe, the Americas and Asia and include options in a variety of academic disciplines. Examples include programs in art and education in China, environment and culture in Jamaica, or business administration in the European Union.

Who should take Distance Learning classes?
Are you self-motivated and self-disciplined?
Do you have time or family needs that make it difficult to regularly drive to campus?
Do you have access to and can use a home computer with internet access?
Do you think that this might be a way for you to further your education in a convenient manner?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Distance Learning may be for you!

How does a Distance Learning class compare to a traditional class? Each Distance Learning class is the equivalent of an on-campus section of the same course, in terms of objectives, content, rigor, and transferability. Students must meet stated prerequisites or assessment scores, where applicable. The course requirements for the Distance Learning class are the same as the on-campus classes. The main difference is the degree of flexibility that Distance Learning classes provide the student.

How do students register for Distance Learning? Students register for Distance Learning in the same way that they register for all credit courses through the Office of the Registrar on each campus. Tuition is the same, but an additional technology fee may apply to some classes.
