WEIGHT ROOM 101 ORIENTATIONS
A FREE "how-to-use" session for the strength training and cardiovascular machines available in the Recreation Center.

Functional Integrated Strength Training: Movement That Matters
Dates/Times: Saturday, Sept. 13, 10am-6:30pm, RC 102
Cost: $125
CEU's: 0.8
Attendees will learn:
- how to conduct a functional movement analysis,.
- how to identify faulty movement patterns during exercise performance,
- how to manioulate acute variables (sets, reps, load, etc.) when progressing functional exercises,
- the key factors affecting the selection and progression of functional exercises,
- how to blend exercises of the core & upper/lower extremity into movements that challenge the CNS and have a high carryover to work & sports.

POSTURAL ASSESSMENT & CORRECTIVE EXERCISES
Date: Sunday, October 26
Time: 10am - 7pm
Location: Recreation Center
Cost: $125 (includes refreshments)
Participants will be able to identify faulty movement patterns that produce poor posture, and learn to develop and apply a comprehensive exercise program with known benefit to selected postural abnormalities. Attendees will learn:
how to perform basic spinal curve assessment,
- how to perform a functional movement screen,
- how to perform and interpret a variety of length-tension assessments,
- the importance of posture & neuralmuscular control for ADLs and sport,
- how to progress corrective exercises for a variety of musculoskeletal pathologies,
- the effects of faulty posture and its relationship tomovement dysfunction and injuries,
- red and yellow flags that may require medical referral.

TRAINING & ASSESSING THE CORE
Date: Sunday, November 23
Time: 10am - 7pm
Location: Recreation Center
Cost: $125 (includes refreshments)
Attendees will learn:
- the functional anatomy of abdominal muscles, cervical flexors, iliopsoas and quadratus lumborum.
- the role of core muscles in kinetic chain force transmission.
- how to assess lumbo-pelvic stabilization; transverse abdominis function; lumbar spine strength & stabilization; abdominal strength & stabilization; and upper abdominal strength.
- how core strength increases the risk of lower and upper extremity injuries.
- to utilize a functional progression for core training that blends the upper and lower extremity, and
- to understand the application of core training for sport and ADLS.
This course has been approved by BOC and AFAA for 7.5 CEUs; NSCA-CC for 0.7 CEUs.

PERSONAL TRAINER MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

While personal training certification from a respected national body is essential, Recreation Services also offers the opportunity for newly certified personal trainers to gain experience by being involved in our mentorship program. This program will provide newly certified professionals the opportunity to observe and learn from certified, experienced personal trainers. Once the participant is ready, as determined by the mentor, the participant is then eligible to apply to become a Recreation Services personal fitness trainer.
