To make the training process easier, you may review each trainer’s profile and personal bio on-line.

trainer1Step 3: Initial Consultation with a Trainer (Required of all new clients)

Cost: $20 Students /$30 Blue REC Members / FREE for Gold REC Members

In order to personalize your program and optimize results, your trainer needs to know more about you. During the consultation, the client will be asked to complete several health history and lifestyle questionnaires. This will allow the trainer and client to establish individualized goals and objectives.

*Please note that for the safety and well-being of all clients, it is important to disclose any relevant medical information which may alter training or require clearance from your physician. All personal data remains confidential.

Step 4: Fitness Assessment (Required of all new clients)

Cost: $20 Students / $25 REC Members

Following a review of your medical and fitness history, a fitness assessment will be completed covering all of the health-related components of fitness:

  • Cardiovascular fitness: Aerobic fitness level estimated by conducting a 3-minute step or bike test.
  • Muscular Strength & Endurance: Test the ability of your muscles to exert force over an extended period of time. Assessed by how many pushups are performed in one minute. Abdominal strength is assessed by how many sit-ups are performed in one minute.
  • Joint Flexibility: A sit and reach test is performed to determine low back, hip and hamstring flexibility. (Adjustments made for those with low-back pain)
  • Body Composition: 3-site caliper test to determine the body’s fat to lean ratio and to set appropriate goals for body weight.
  • Postural Assessment: To determine the need for corrective exercises.

*Height, weight, blood pressure, and resting heart rate will also be recorded.

The results obtained from an individual assessment will assist the trainer in understanding the current physical fitness level and needs of the client. Furthermore, individualized goals are re-defined and a personalized fitness program can be established. Once you purchase an individual session or training package, you're ready to begin!

Metabolic Testing (optional)

Cost: $30 Students & Gold Rec Members / $40 Blue REC Members (These rates are 50% off the regular price)

Metabolic testing is a way of measuring your resting metabolic rate (RMR), which is how many calories you burn at rest. Metabolic testing is important because it:

  • tells you how much you can eat and still lose weight,
  • is sensitive to the right number of calories you need,
  • will help you keep on track.

How this new equipment works: SInce it takes oxygen to make energy, we just measure how much oxygen your body uses in 10 minutes, and that tells us how many calories you are burning. It is the same technology used in hospitals and is very accurate.

To schedule a test, contact Edwin Ryan, the Personal Fitness Trainer, at (305) 348-6519.
